2024 Year In Review

It’s amazing how quickly we move from one year to another.  In the blink of an eye, welcome 2025!

Doo Dah Apparel has been in business for two years, incorporating as an LLC in California in January 2023.  We’ve yet to earn a profit.  In fact, we haven’t generated a consistent revenue stream yet, which isn’t surprising because we’re a new business in a remarkably competitive market.  We’re not concerned about that.  We’ll keep trying until we figure out a way to appeal to a customer base looking for a sustainably cool SoCal brand for both men and women.

We’re currently an e-commerce company without a brick-and-mortar store.  Customers can purchase our products on our website, or by clicking on links to our products in our shops on TikTok, Instagram, and Pinterest.  We’re a digital apparel and accessory company.  Paying rent to occupy our own store would mean debt, which we’re not willing to incur.  We’ll occupy our own store when we’ve identified a customer niche that we’re able to market successfully to.

Our website took us a year to build.  Crown Design located in Northern California has been doing the work, though they outsource some of their responsibilities overseas.  Patricia Connor and her developers at Crown have done an excellent job working within my budget to build an attractive and functional Shopify website using a template that provides us the flexibility to grow, develop our brand, and add new products.  Our next website will be built using both WordPress and Shopify.  WordPress will give us the freedom to create our own design without being limited to a template, while also enabling us to utilize Shopify’s apps, payment platform, and security to support and protect our customers.

Doo Dah Apparel works with small batch apparel, jewelry and accessory manufacturers and artists, most of whom make their products here in the United States using sustainable materials and living wage labor.  We plan to take the same approach with our own brand for men.  We’ve made hats with Storied Hats located in the Pacific Northwest, and shirts with TS Designs in North Carolina.  We’re in the process of manufacturing a Cone Denim jacket with Red and Blue Denim here in Los Angeles.  We’ll make our first sample jackets as soon as we’re able to find a water-based dye free of plastisol for the art on the jacket.  We’ll continue to make small batch designs until we’ve built our own brand.

We’re looking forward to communicating with our customers.  Amber Ortiz has been doing a great job putting together our newsletters and social media accounts.  We’re planning an authentic advertising campaign using User Generated Content (UGC), collaborating with social media personalities, and we plan on making our own videos that will, no doubt, make our customers gaffe and throw tomatoes at their computer screen!  We hope they don’t try to charge us for damages!

Alec Matulka has been writing our blogs.  Alec is a far greater writer than I am, so no doubt our readers are thankful they won’t need to read more of my gibberish.  Alec will help us refine our written identity, and if he’s interested and has time, he’ll be the editor of a digital publication called The Doo Dah Daily.  The Doo Dah Daily will be written by and for high school and college students, with a targeted age demographic of 16 to 30.  The Daily will talk with a younger generation about the issues they’re concerned about, articulating pros and cons in a manner they can easily identify with.  Our only agenda will be the opportunity to advertise our products to a generation we believe will value them.  We’ll work with journalism departments at high schools and colleges for content, including recent graduates.  The Daily will be available on our website next to our blogs, and at the domain www.doodahdaily.news, which we’ve acquired but haven’t developed yet.

That’s where we’ve been, and that’s where we’re going!  We hope you’ve had a wonderful holiday.  Happy New Year!  Hopefully 2025 will be the best year yet for all of us.
